Adoption

It is the answer for thousands of children who are waiting in foster care for permanent homes and loving families.

In 1992, Dave Thomas, Founder of Wendy’s®, established the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, and in 2003 the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption Canada was incorporated. We are firmly committed to continue our founder’s vision and belief that all children deserve the love and support of a permanent family. To Dave Thomas, adoption was personal because he was adopted into a permanent, loving home. He sincerely believed every child deserves the same.

There are approximately 78,000 children in foster care in Canada and 30,000 of those children are legally free, waiting for permanent families.  Adoption and permanency is personal to them, too.

The Foundation is dedicated to helping these children by supporting programs that will dramatically increase the number of adoptions, while also focusing on ways to make the adoption process easier and more affordable.

One way to encourage adoption is to provide information on how to begin the adoption process. The guide, A Child is Waiting: A Step-By-Step Guide to Adoption, is designed to offer some basic information and resources to people who are considering adopting a child.

If you are thinking of starting a family, or adding another child to your present family, please consider adopting a child who has been waiting – perhaps for a very long time – for someone to love them and to provide them with a permanent home and a loving family to call their own.

Wendy's Wonderful Kids is the direct-service signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption that combines the fundraising of Wendy’s and its customers, aggressive grants management of the Foundation, and the talent of experienced adoption professionals throughout the U.S. and in Canada to move children from foster care into permanent, loving adoptive homes.
