Changing the Journey for a Waiting Child

To advance our mission, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption-Canada believes it is not only about building an approach that finds permanent homes for the longest-waiting children in foster care. It is about understanding the needs and experiences of the children and youth we serve, and promoting resources that support families as well as the life-changing work of child welfare professionals.

Through awareness efforts, research and our signature Wendy’s Wonderful KidsTM program, we are working toward that goal every day.

Actively Fund & Support Youth Permanency Efforts

Through Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, the Foundation supports the hiring of professionals, known as recruiters, who serve the longest-waiting children in foster care. These professionals use an evidence-based, child-focused recruitment model to find the right permanent family for every child in their care.

Raising awareness that children are at risk of aging out of foster care and urging the public to get involved are important parts of our work at the Foundation. You can help by following us on social media, sharing our free educational resources, reading our stories of impact and more.

Research

We conduct research to understand public perceptions about foster care, adoption and other forms of permanency. This informs our messaging to inspire more people to open their hearts and their homes to a child waiting for a family.
